The Constitution has been criticized for loopholes after it has been used to successfully organize eight successive presidential and parliamentary elections, which allowed the peaceful exchange of power between the two major parties.

It has also been condemned for impeding good governance and developments despite the gains, which has resulted in Ghana being touted as the beacon of democracy and multiparty politics in Africa.

It is in this vein that the founder and leader of Youth Leadership Parliament, Kobby Fabian, has reiterated the need for the 1992 Constitution to be amended to improve the governance system of Ghana.

He is optimistic that the review would eliminate gaps that create opportunities for corruption and enhance the socio-economic development of the country.

The planning and property development consultant in the United Kingdom, in an interview on Onua Etifi Nsem show asserted that the 1992 Constitution has outlived its usefulness.

“My position is that this Constitution has done its job to a certain point, and the 1992 Constitution we have come to a point where we must take a bold step to review it”.

“The Constitution, crafted in 1992 with the dynamics that existed, empowered the executives giving the President the prerogative to appoint key people in the country, has been the misery of Ghana’s economic growth, he grumbled.

He expounded that the constitution was crafted at the time a military leader was transitioning from military to civilian rule. Hence, there was so much power given to the president to protect him.
